Mid Missouri pride

Through the humid haze of late August in Missouri, MidMo PrideFest brought hundreds of people together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 at Rose Music Hall. In predominantly conservative areas of the US, LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination and oppression. Pride events remain a critical display of solidarity and opposition in hopes of equality. The festival, comprised of of local vendors, live music and a drag show, aimed to bring greater visibility and acceptance for all. Attendees expressed their love for, as 22-year-old Donald Williams put it, “this amazing, gorgeous community.” According to Williams, a beautician at Ulta beauty, “the first step is loving yourself and the rest will unfold. Literally just love yourself. Don’t let let anyone get you down, tell you who you need to be or define you.”
